In the Jan/Feb edition of Safeguard magazine we pose three questions based on stories in the magazine. One of them is this:
Michelle Wu and Jane Fowles write about the challenges faced by some recent immigrants when they are required to adapt to our health & safety expectations.
What has worked best for you?
Feel free to respond here on the Forum, or privately here via a Survey Monkey form.
An edited selection of responses will be published in the March/April edition, but with no names attached. One randomly selected person will receive a prize, namely a copy of the book Mentally Healthy Work in Aotearoa New Zealand, published by WorkSafe NZ.
I have found, Face to Face communication and training to be the best way to help Immigrants and those where English is a second language, don't be shy, get out and communicate to the immigrants, make them feel like part of the work whanau, the more you include immigrants to your Safety Communications and training, the happier and more confident they become and a better understanding of Kiwis and the NZ Health & Safety Act in general.
