Long term viewers at home will know that as rule, Uncle Stevie usually bangs on about saving workers from an untimely demise, so this post will be a little surprise, but it is connected (by a long thread maybe)

If you are thinking about buying some new major electrical appliances, getting an EV, having a PV/Solar power supply installed, doing electrical upgrades to your house (or business) or building a new house, and/or just want to do your bit to save the planet, then this is for you.

Courtesy of ECCA there is a Publicly Available Standard (PAS) that deals with how you can do this, the title is SNZ PAS 6012:2022, and it's available for free download from Standards New Zealand here

PAS 6012:2022, is intended to guide electricity consumers, publicly facing businesses, and suppliers of Smart Home equipment and services, to adopt a best practice approach on their journey to a New Zealand network of Smart Homes. It is designed to become a single touch point document, where all relevant general Smart Home information is contained, and will also provide signposts to more detailed information.

So if you want to get some background on turning your house into a Smart House, this is a great primer to know what questions to ask, things to consider etc etc, download it now and enjoy some bedtime reading.

And the connection between between this and worker safety? Quite apart from leaving a healthy planet for future workers, if you have a home PV system or an EV Charger that is capable of back feeding the grid, these need to be connected so as to prevent your installation from feeding the grid in a supply outage and thereby endangering the lives of lines teams working on the problem.
