  • The Difference Between Signed & Understanding & "What's The Point"?
There is no point having rules if they are not enforced, and if you do not have the authority to enforce them there is only so much you can do. I think its not the best use of your time to follow all of these up. If there are rules you need management support. Have you taken the issue to the H&S committee to see if they have any ideas to increase compliance?
  • Price of AS/NZS Standards
I agree that they should be free, especially the broader standards. Only one company I have worked for had relatively easy access to these, despite being referenced in company literature. I know a lot of work goes into them but what is the point if no one uses them. Maybe money from WorkSafe prosecutions could help fund them?
  • EWP use by contractors
Hi, I agree those operating a EWP should be trained but its not uncommon to come across those who haven't been as this is a relativey new requirement. Pre-starts should always be done - no excuses!
  • Keyboard ergonomics
    ↪Ben Thomas
I know I see the two finger typists everyday and can see their frustration, and I feel frustrated watching them! I agree ergonomics does favour those who can type - a gap in the market for some to exploit maybe :). But a computer is tool and needs to be used effectively - you wouldn't try and use a chainsaw with one hand so why do people struggle for years typing with 2 fingers....?
  • Keyboard ergonomics
Lots of good suggestions but how about learning to type! There are lots of free online programs, I did this years ago and have been benefiting ever since. Yes its a time commitment but think how much time you will save in the long run :)
Training your non-dominant hand to use the mouse decreases the stress on the dominant hand. I would recommend having a mouse each side to start with and do a little each day.
  • Signing For Attendance At Toolbox Meetings
The minute taker notes attendees to the meeting on the form which is scanned and held on file, individuals are only required to sign when attending a training session
  • Critical Risk definition
Thanks for all the replies everyone!
  • Forklift Safety Lights
At a previous company I worked at we had blue lights fitted that shone a spotlight on the floor 3-5m infront of the forklift. This increased visibility of approaching forklifts especially through doors / round corners.
  • What should we use this Forum for?
In favour of the weekly digest :) otherwise time flies and it end ups being ages since I checked in
