Carbon Monoxide is given off wood pellets, wood chips and coffee beans

As the use of coal is phased out and replaced with wood chips and pellets we need to consider the risk of CO in the storage and transport of these. Other gases will also be discharged such as aldehydes but at a lower concentration.

The risk from carbon monoxide is also present when the wood chips and pellets are transported. The carbon monoxide is generated by biological activity in the wood chips and pellets. Temperature, humidity and age are factors in the amount of carbon monoxide.

With coffee beans the carbon monoxide is generated in the roasting process. It is then released when the beans are ground.
