  • Impairment vs Risk vs What Should an Employer 'Reasonably' Know...?
I would refer to your vehicle policy that "Bob" signed and agreed to.
If this did not occur and you are relying on "everyone knows" then it gets a bit murkier.

If you buy "house brand" power tools they won't last until the next test is due. Not a great alternative.

I would much rather see a plan for how a contractor was going to do the job they were contracted to do safely than see that their H&S policy was signed and dated by at least three members of the executive.

I would recommend looking in to gethomesafe or similar to have an automatic check in system. Get home safe is triggered when people call, email or use a list off apps. This reduces the need for the team to check in. It can also be linked to a satellite device if your team go out of cell coverage.

I was reading those yesterday. We are starting to service a few electric trucks and are looking at possible electric options in the fleet.

I had a fire at one site a few years back.. We placed a tile underneath the charging stations to reduce the risk of the fire spreading. Then moved to metal cabinets just for extra safety.

Units needed to be charged overnight so other than hiring someone to sit and watch them they were always going to be left alone.
  • Restorative justice meetings - what is your experience?
    Hello,

It appears that the Survey Monkey is not working so I will write here.

I was involved in one when a player in a sports team I coached was assaulted by his polytech tutor. He had been disruptive in class tutor had thrown something at him. The traditional piece of chalk was not at hand so he threw a hammer.

The student had responded with a few choice words and left. The restorative justice meeting was meant for him to apologize to the tutor and discuss returning. He asked for my assistance and we ended up getting him a full refund and a transfer to another Polytech with a transfer of his credits.

This was an example of not going in with preconceived expectations. It is tricky to balance investigation with restorative justice as the two probably need to be kept separate, however going in to a restorative justice meeting without all the facts can cause more harm than good.

This is a great point Steve. It would create mass confusion and people having to turn against the flow of traffic.

    Hello,
Yes. This starts as a safety conversation before it progresses. What I am looking for is data on how we compare. We will continue to work with our outliers as the variance between two people with the safe role should not be a factor of 10 or 20.

I have a spare epi pen that my friend gave me before he died. I could not understand what he was saying at the time, but for some reason he really wanted me to have it.

You can find out the answers to technical questions but if you can't deal with people you are stuffed.

The item was a metal fuel pump. WorkSafe have said no.
  • Covid vaccination - can it be required on H&S grounds?
You will always have staff who choose to be part of the control group due to fear of needles, fear or the unknown or fear or Bill Gates putting microchips in their blood to he can track them while the go to the supermarket.

I have had the question asked about once a week for the last two months. My position would be unless you are working in healthcare or border work it is unlikely that you could argue that they require it for hazard management.
