    After 30 years in Health & Safety within many different Industries, I have yet to come across a salary of that amount, but in saying that, it also depends on what qualifications you have and the type and size of the Business.Do they offer go Salaries, i have recently applied for a number of Roles and the Highest offer I received was $26.00 an hour, one business had the check to offer minimum wage rate., they wanted an experienced qualified person but were not prepared to pay any higher for the role as a Health & Safety Specialist. What a joke a real kick in the head. Fortunately I was able to receive a role with an $80k starting rate.

    I carry out an Annual Induction Refresher course for both Staff and Contractors, I only put the Contractors through a Rigid Prequalification process when they apply for works to our business. 12 Monthly is good and I make it a habit to sit with them during the refresher and up date them on any changes to works and Legislative changes. or changes to Traffic management, I keep them posted throughout the contract of any important changes which may affect their works through emails and phone call.

    I have found, Face to Face communication and training to be the best way to help Immigrants and those where English is a second language, don't be shy, get out and communicate to the immigrants, make them feel like part of the work whanau, the more you include immigrants to your Safety Communications and training, the happier and more confident they become and a better understanding of Kiwis and the NZ Health & Safety Act in general.
