    With our pool vehicle they do a check before leaving - which is still paper.
    With our fleet they do a check weekly which is completed via google. When there are a change in driver they need to do a check before taking the vehicle. Or fleet do not change hand regularly.
    We don't have truck on light including a ute and a van.
    I do not recall a standard stating you need a checklist, it is about risk management and how you are notified to address issues asap.
    Our pool vehicles is an ongoing problem getting them checked by drivers.
    The fleet vehicles are easier to track checks and enforce.

    Hi, we run a "Celebrate Safety at Hills" program.

    Nominations for recognition examples:
    1. Process that worked well eliminating or minimising risk.
    2. Team activity/task/work that encouraged safety behaviour.
    3. A process that can be duplicated in another area to eliminate or minimise risk.

    The award can be individual or a team, we have a trophy for 1st, and a smaller trophy for the runner up. We are fortunate to have a cafeteria and first place winner/team are shouted for lunch.

    First year we only had 4 nominations. Second year 8 and this year currently at 12 and still open till end October.

  • How long to hold onto an SDS?
    Hi,

    A safety data sheet is only valid for 5 years in NZ.
    We don't see the need to keep the ones older than that.

    HSWA (General Risk and HSNO regulations) does not say the SDS to be kept 30 years only that records for employee health monitoring to kept 30 years
    If your company is owned by US then they can impose their regulations otherwise you apply NZ legislation.

    Good morning

    You do need to have the SDS for all chemicals that you have on site.

    Instead of keeping hard copies, use electronic copies. Our chemicals are not delivered with a SDS, when the order is placed the electronic copy is downloaded.

    Ensure your workers has access to the copies via electronic devices. WorkSafe expectation from us was that employees had to find the sds within 5min.

  • Who leads mental health: H&S or HR?
    Good questions

    Our business decided that there are two parts to it:

    1. Mental Wellbeing coordinated by HR: build resilience, know yourself to know others, etc. Several programs/training available that staff can schedule themselves or scheduled by their line managers.

    2. Physical Wellbeing coordinated by H&S: are basic needs met- 5 ways to mental health, annual health monitoring, Wellbeing Calendar with different activities to participate in, celebrate safety awards, financial wellbeing, and providing information they can read on different topics e.g. men's health, etc.

    I received the below yesterday asking for an expression of interest. It seems they going to be a distributor.
    We had two questions for them i) How do these tests reach a very high sensitivity greater than 95% and have a specificity rate of 99.6% in Australia, and ii) How do the kits perform for asymptomatic people who are infected.

    Last week the Government announced the approval for the use of Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) for businesses. As you can appreciate there is still are rigorous process to go through with MBIE and MoH as this is rolled out but we are just about there.
    The test we have aligned with is considered to have a very high sensitivity greater than 95% and has a specificity rate of 99.6% by the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia. I have attached the instructions for use of this test to give an indication of the requirements for administering it within your business.
