• What makes the Aussies so much better?
I believe one of the fundamental points of difference between the Aussies(and the Poms) and New Zealand’s performance lies full square at the door of the Regulator.

The provision of clear unambiguous guidance ( backed up by science and data), robust enforcement and a well resourced inspectorate naturally results in good outcomes.

We have a very long way to go
  • How best to boost H&S generalist numbers?
Ive been doing this for over 20 years and frankly find the term “generalist” objectionable.

  • Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome - anti vibration gloves
In my experience an expensive waste of time.
The use of gloves to keep hands warm will certainly help blood flow in colder conditions which can marginally help, but the only way to manage HAVS is through measuring, monitoring and ensuring exposure times are not exceeded.
  • Are you doing anything to prepare for cannabis referendum
Bearing in mind it's a non binding referendum, will wait and see if changes are likely to occur in the event of vote in favour.
On a personal note, I am very much on the fence as to whether its a good thing or not.
  • Scissor Lift question
No they do not have to unless your risk assessment deems it necessary.
  • ICAM Investigation Course
I did an ICAM course with Impac and can absolutely recommend it.
